The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has a new member. “Toby the K-9″ is by no means a typical deputy. Clare City approves K-9 Police program

The Clare Police Department has a new K-9 Program to augment the department with the addition of new canine officer “Swiper.” The City Commission approved the program at the meeting Monday evening. Swiper was to be sworn in as a Clare Police Officer Wednesday. The program will be evaluated annually. $30Gs gift for K-9 unit

The granddaughter of a mounted and canine officer who regularly escorted the queen of Holland on horse rides has left Toronto Police $30,000 to purchase and train more police dogs. The gift was provided by lifelong dog-lover and retired Bank of Montreal employee Lydia Sullivan, who lived in New York and was in her mid-70s when she died last November. The Toronto Police Services Board voted yesterday to accept the bequest left in her will. A similar amount was left to York Regional Police.
