4-H members showed off dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds Monday during the Albany County Dog Show at the Albany County Fairgrounds. Prizes were awarded in showmanship, obedience and conformation. Today, 4-H members will compete in the agility and rally competitions.
Dog group continues talks on creating park

Denkai works hard to stand by its no-kill policy
John Cowie, dog trainer for the Denkai Adoption Center, walks with Haggard, one of the oldest members of Denkai, and Skittles, his assistant, as John works on teaching Haggard, who leads while walking. Cowie has been training dogs at Denkai three times a week for the past three months.

Volunteers put emergency training to test
Members of the Douglas County Community Emergency Response Team responded to a mock disaster in southeast Lawrence on Tuesday. The exercise was the culmination of their eight-week volunteer training program.

Public kill vicious dog as it attacks poodle
A vicious dog was killed by members of the public, including an elderly man, after they leapt in to stop it mauling a poodle.
